Veterinary Students

Every veterinary student has apprehensions about making the transition from school to the professional practice of veterinary medicine. Banfield, The Pet Hospital® has created an externship program designed to make this transition successful. Banfield externs gain real-world experience and learn about the business of veterinary practice through exposure to our full-service, state of the art hospitals. At Banfield, externs can expect to develop their medical and surgical skills under the watchful care of a licensed mentor.

Externships are available to final year veterinary students who do not need sponsorship to work in the U.S. and are currently enrolled in a college of veterinary medicine. Externship placements are available year- round at most of our full-service hospitals and can be scheduled for two to eight weeks in duration to suit almost any schedule. During those weeks, externs shadow a mentor and work his or her schedule (which could include evenings and weekends) while earning a $200 per week stipend to offset travel and housing expenses. Plus, externs are eligible to participate in our  Student Rewards Program!
